Wise Words: Change

So, so true. As I type this post, Guster's Manifest Destiny came on Pandora..."you can always change your mind..." How serendipitous!

Wise Words: Live Simply

Live Simply 18x24 limited ed screen print $19.99 by 55 Hi's
Living simply. I'm sure it's different for everyone. Lately, I've been attempting to simplify things in my own life. I'm getting a little more organized, eating well and feeling better because of it, doing an exercise program I actually enjoy, and I'm slowly learning to be ok with not having to do be doing something every moment of every day. When things start feeling too complicated and overwhelming, it's nice to have a reminder to step back, take a deep breath and simplify. How do you live simply?

Happy V-Day!

hand lettered print by oh my deer
It has been a hectic, crazy week and I may or may not have forgotten that today was V-day. Oh yes, it's been one of those weeks. But thankfully, I have a husband who remembered (as of noon today, ha!) and I'm looking forward to enjoying the heart shaped meatloaf he made me. Oh yes. Heart shaped meatloaf. And wine. Can't forget the wine. Cheers to a happy V-day!

Wise Words: Darkness

mumford and sons lyrics / print by zyanya lorenzo
My heart has been heavy with grief over the horrific events that occurred in Newtown, Conn. last Friday morning. My thoughts and prayers are with the families that lost their loved ones and with a nation that rightfully mourns alongside them. It didn't feel right to continue posting without mentioning something about this unthinkable tragedy. May we continue to seek the light in the darkness.

Wise Words + New Blog Look

quote by albert einstein via here (found via this pin)
This quote is a bit of a mouthful but it's so true, isn't it? I was having a heart-to-heart with my sister last night about change and I kept thinking about these words. Sometimes we have to make some hard decisions in order to illicit different results, know what I mean?

And, speaking of change, I hope you'll take a moment to check out D&OC's new look. I've tried to make things look a little cleaner around here. I did not have the funds to pay a designer this time around so I went the DIY route which is scary since my graphic design skills are close to non existent. I gave it my best effort though and I hope you like it!

Happy Weekend

via quotes and images; purchase print here
How has your week been? Mine has been incredibly busy and I find myself at night crawling into bed and passing out from exhaustion. Needless to say, I'm very much looking forward to a three day weekend. B's parents are coming into town for a visit so the next couple of days should be filled with lots of good conversation and wine drinking on the porch. What are you up to this weekend? Any fun plans? I hope your weekend is awesome!

This quote has been making me smile all week. Roald Dahl was my favorite author growing up. If you know the original source, please let me know.

Monday's Motivation

happen print $15 by vapor qualquer
Just a little motivation on a Monday, because if you're anything like me, you might need it. This weekend was incredibly busy and I realized last night that I was more tired than I had been on Friday which is never good. Sometimes you just need drink an extra cup of coffee, put your nose to the grindstone and simply make it happen. Whatever "it" happens to be. Hope your week is off to a great start!

Obvious State

I ran across Evan Roberson's graphic design work on the Huffington post recently and found the use of literary quotes, typography and graphic images to be quite charming. These 13x19" digital illustrations are for sale in Evan's shop, Obvious State, for $24 each. My favorite is the Walt Whitman quote although I'm pretty sure I could see the Hemingway quote finding a nice home in our office.

29

great adventure art print $18 by leah flores
I turn 29 today. In many ways I feel old and sometimes very tired and in other ways, I feel young and inexperienced and as soon as I think I've grasped some great truth I realize that I, in fact, know very little. I've lost much of the arrogance of my early 20s but have gained some perspective and confidence over the past year. 28 was certainly an adventure, and not always a good one, but an adventure nonetheless. Since my last birthday, we relocated to another state and both started new jobs, we've battled with infertility and continue fighting that tiresome fight, and we had a scary house fire and lost some things, but nothing that can't be replaced. I had good days and a few very bad days and everything in between. If life itself isn't an adventure, I don't know what is!\

Thanks for dropping by, your support and readership have always meant the world to me. I'll be taking a little break from blogging this week but I'll be back next week with fresh posts. Cheers!

Art (For the Nursery)

My best friend had a baby over the weekend (a big, 9lb 8oz, healthy boy!). I think these letterpress prints ($35) by Sycamore Press are the perfect addition to a nursery. My favorite is the, 'Nothing says you care like a clean diaper." So true. You can purchase these prints on the Sycamore Press website or at their Etsy shop.

Happy Weekend

julian bialowas
"Where there is love and inspiration you can't go wrong." So true, isn't it? Although it has been one hell of a week, we are focusing on the positive all around us- a new job, a new city, new friends, family, a support system that spans the nation, love and inspiration. I'm looking forward to the weekend with B. We're planning on going to Durham, walking around the city and seeing a movie.
A few links for you:

* I've added a bunch of fresh, lovely interiors to my tumblr page.
* I'm still looking for the perfect bag for work. Here's a roundup of handmade options.
* Will someone please, please, please buy these boots so that I stop staring at them everyday?
* There's a new online mag and the first issue is pretty great.

I hope you have a great weekend. Thank you for hanging in there with me this week. xoxo

Happy Weekend

via LE MEMÉ
Happy weekend friends! Have you had a good week? Today is my last day of work with my current job and I'm sad and a bit afraid of what lies ahead but mostly I'm excited. Our material life is in boxes and cellophane (yes, cellophane, best packing tool ever) and I think I'm functioning on pure adrenaline and nerves, but other than the obvious, I'm feeling good. We're having a going away happy hour in Athens today so we can see our friends before we set off on our moving adventure. Let's hope I don't make a blabbering fool of myself and cry into my whiskey. It certainly wouldn't be the first time.

We're scheduled to have our internet set up at our new home this time next week, so I'll be out of touch until then. Luckily for me (and you, I hope) we have an amazing line up of guest bloggers that I know you're going to adore (if you don't already). I trust you'll pop in and check out their blogs and make some new friends, ok?
Until then, I wish you a restful weekend and an adventurous new week. xoxo
