Man Made Rain

I'll give you one guess as to what type of weather we've been having.  Rain might not do much for my mood but doesn't it make fantastic imagery?

From plates to mobiles to prints and letterpress cards, rain is definitely a motif that makes me smile.
I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed and trying desperately to catch up with the online world and your lovely blogs.  You might notice that posting is a bit sporadic but that's because I'm trying to fit it in whenever I can, even if it's right before bed time.  Hang in there with me, the storms always pass.

Mobile (Fine) Art

Happy Monday everyone! If you sense false cheer in that statement, you might be right. Here's my weekend recap in a nutshell:
-DIY chairs, almost done. They're in need of final coat of sealant. Pictures to come.
-B got into a bike wreck. Bad news is his beautiful vintage bike that he worked so hard on is dead; good news is he is not (dead, that is.)
-I received another flat tire yesterday, this time in route to see B's mom. Not good. I'm beginning to think this is bad luck...three flat tires from nails in the past three months. What's up with that?
Anyway, on my last hanging mobile post, the very sweet Samantha from Bromeliad Living, left me a link on some pretty interesting hanging mobiles I'd like to share with you.
These pieces are actual sculptures from the artist Robin M Jordan and I think they're brilliant.
'War Prayers'
'Waterbottle Rain'
'Raindrops'
'Leaves'

3-d work was never my strength in school so I'm always impressed when I find pieces that manage to convey such strong presence, especially with the use of mixed media and found objects. I would definitely hang the 'Leaves' mobile in my home, fine art or not.
Thank you Samantha for the link!

Hanging around

One of the things B and I have tried to incorporate in our new space is hanging items (mostly pendant lamps). I've been slowly looking for hanging mobile options and have made some progress. Of course, I'd prefer to buy something handmade as opposed to something manufactured so I've been searching Etsy as well. Here is my tentative list of Etsy "hanging" items, some or mobiles, others simply attach to the ceiling.
Warm Spice 3 piece Pom Kit $15

I'm a huge fan of cranes and origami so this one would be ideal if it wasn't sold out. I'm sure the artist will make another (right, right?)

This might be a children's mobile, but I'm still smitten with it.
Lovebirds Mobile Orange $40

You actually assemble this one yourself.
Falling Blossom Hanging Decoration KIT $11
source: Ruth Singer
This one is kitchy but really fun (see the little horseshoe?)
Cowgirl Ecofriendly Art Mobile $95
source: Yummy Ink
This is an actual kinetic art mobile and I really like the soft color palette.
Lil'Softy $75
source: Foamobiles
Here's a little inspiration...
Here are two long vertical shapes.

Do you have a mobile in your space?

Chairs and mobiles and chandeliers, oh my!

I was very excited to come across two bedroom "setups" that illustrate some of my previous posts.
Note the use of two vintage style chairs as bedside tables...
For more chairs as bedside tables click here. I'm also in love with that chandelier.

This second bedroom illustrates the use of a kinetic art mobile as a decorative piece. I almost didn't notice that disappearing, clear chair beside the bed:

Happy, Happy Friday. I hope everyone has a great weekend! I'll be working on my grad school application (finally), but I'll keep up w/the posts:) Thanks for reading!

Globe Mobile

Last night, with nothing to do but be snowed in, B and I started searching for the perfect kinetic art mobile for our entryway space. B introduced me to the idea of a hanging mobile and I really love it. We are both super excited about this one:
"Globes" $70

Each globe displays a different cartography era! Does anyone have a mobile hanging in there home? Do you like the idea?
