The solution to the clawfoot...

Make sure you read me correctly friends, not "club foot"- clawfoot. If any of you bathe and/or shower in claw foot tubs you'll feel my pain. First of all, I adore claw foot tubs as I think I've mentioned before. However, ours takes THREE shower curtains (actually two and a half if you want to get down to the knitty gritty). I love our tub, but I just feel like it's too much plastic, like I'm showering in a cocoon of saran wrap or something. Anway, I ran across this tub and I know the solution...
Do you see that nifty glass contraption thingy?
via Aspirations of a Southern Housewife (check out the rest of this house on this blog, it's crazy big.)
It's minimalist, it's not plastic (at least I don't think it is) and you still get the look of an exposed claw foot tub. It's perfect! I'll have to file this idea away for when I have my own house, b/c no, the rental will not benefit from our labor on this one.
Now if I could just have a bathroom like this with that glass thing...

I mean, who doesn't want a chandelier over their bathtub?

I used to have a clawfooted tub, too. The shower curtain rod was PVC and the shower curtain was plastic on the inside and lace or something on the outside (I was having a Victorian moment.

A chandelier would have been awesome.

p.s. like the new header.

I pushed for the chandelier and was denied. I think the hubs just might come home to one one day. That inspiration bathroom you found is incredible!

We have one that predates the claw, it's a chicken foot. Glamorous no? I feel your pain about all of those dang shower curtains, and I actually have to shave some plastic off the bottom because with my short ceiling the things are too long! URG.

how lucky you are to have a clawfoot tub! i adore them, my dad had one when he lived in his old farm house in virginia and i loved visiting him there and taking a true tub. i love that glass idea if that's what it is? can't quite tell. and yes...one must have a chandelier over one's tub, it's truly a must :)

I so desperately want a clawfoot tub... but never thought about the shower curtain issue. This seems like the perfect solution (although I think I agree with you... I'd rather have a chandelier over my head than a showerhead).

Hmm, not sure what I think about the clawfoot tub...looks very pretty though and thanks for sharing the latest and greatest!

ooooooooooooooooh!!! these are both so beautiful!!!

i have a rental with a HORRIBLE tub! it isn't even worth it to take a bath, as you have to jam your heel over the drain to try and keep the water from seeping out so fast. and ours takes two shower curtains, too. ha!

someday we will have what we want. hopefully someday SOON!!! :)

Wow! Looks like a piece of heaven on earth. I'd love to have a clawfoot tub one day.:) I checked out the blog -- I can't even imagine living in a house like this. Definitely would want help if I had one soooo big.

Love your new look Christina - your header I mean! ...and the claw foot bath with chandelier would make me feel like a Bond/ 007 girl for sure!

I love claw foot tubs... when I am overly wealthy someday (yeah right) I would love a claw foot tub AND a giant walk in shower surrounded by glass block. Then you don't even have to worry about the glass thing at all because the tub is only for baths. And yes... everyone should have a chandelir over their tub- so glamorous!

that bottom rustic bathroom is dreamy

Yay! First of all, thanks so much for the mention. I was just popping over to see what you were writing about today, and happy surprise!

Secondly, you have such a fantastic eye. I admit, I was totally overwhelmed with all the photos I found of those "dream" homes I totally missed this. I think it is glass- curved glass, it seems.

And, speaking of chandeliers in the bath, did you see the photo just below it with the chandelier hanging over the clawfoot tub? Gorgeous. Chandeliers totally appropriate in the bathroom.

I love clawfoot tubs but sadly don't have one and it probably wouldn't work with our house style. :-(

It is a nice solution! I would be happy just to have a tub. But my husband has just looked deep into our finances - and maybe next year we can afford to make the guest toilet into a parent (read: my private) bathroom, inclusive a tub. That would be so nice!

A chandelier over my bathtub would be the ultimate fairy tale! It's on my wishlist!

This is a great solution - and so chic. I used to live in a house with a clawfoot, and I have to agree on the whole plastic cocoon thing - NG.

I rented an apt with clawfooted tub during college years...hated to go underneath to clean...it was backbreaking. With housekeepers, than it would be dreamy...hah!

This week is about chandelier, I found chandelier everywhere and I think that the bathroom will be the right place for it. Very chic, cozy and so in contrast!

Good morning!!!

I heart claw foot tubs. you can get nice material shower curtains that have aplastic backing...they are a bit prettier from the outside.

I'm SOOOO jealous you have a clawfoot tub. I so want one...I'd never leave it. ;)

i have a clawfoot tub,and i upgraded to a cloth shower liner instead of plastic. it makes a big difference! (I know what you mean about feeling like you're showering in Saran Wrap.) cloth (polyester, i think) is more expensive than plastic, but it's machine washable so worth it in the end environmentally and financially. x

I have looked high and low (with no success) for an enclosure for my clawfoot tub just like the one in the first picture. Any suggestions?
