Friday couldn't come soon enough

Hello sweet, dear readers. I hope everyone has a productive Friday, tying up this week's work. I have a baby shower I'm looking forward to this weekend, and I'm bringing my super yummy 7 layer dip. Until then, though, I have a lot of work to do and I'm physically not feeling so great. This week's been a bit of a doozy, so I'm really going to try to make the best out of the weekend.
I'm in the market for a new book to read, because reading always cheers me up. The problem is, I really haven't been able to get engaged with a book in some time, which is not like me. Do you have any suggestions? It doesn't matter which kind of book, I'm pretty open (as long as it's not scary!).
I'd love to hear your suggestions and I'll update you on what I decide upon. Please come back and see me this weekend:) picture seen in Living Etc.

Great blog!! Here are my suggestions for your next read:
Anything by Jodi Picoult (you can read about the booksigning by her that I went to last weekend on my blog www.bookwormzreader.blogspot.com)

Anything by Jennifer Lancaster (she's laugh out loud funny)!!

The Red Tent (a great book written about women who lived during the time of the bible. it doesn't feel very religious, though, so don't expect a religious story) by Anita Diamant

Dry by Augusten Burroughs (funny, sad, well-written account of an ad execs struggle with alcoholism).

Hope that is enough to start with!!! They were all among my favs. :)

I sadly can never finish a single book I pick up--so I am not sure my suggestions would be informed one:) I have had a similar week at work--hope you have a lovely and restful weekend!

"Blindness" by Jose Saramago. They made a movie out of it recently that no one saw. It's got group think and social commentary and is a gripping story.

"Moving On" by Larry McMurtry. This might be my favorite book. Follows the life of a woman and her troubles. Here's a review excerpt I like:
She cries a lot -- oh, does she cry -- but she cries because she is lost, alone & confused, and McMurtry never backs away from or softens his portrayal of her despair. We intimately know her family & friends, their loves, affairs, betrayals and kindnesses, and they quickly become believable, fully human, and known. This is a long book and, in musical terms, stays mostly between mezzo-piano & mezzo-forte -- short on dramatic plot development and cathartic climaxes. But 'Moving On' is a beautifully developed portrait of a group of almost-real people, and you will remember them for a long, long time.

Ok have you read any of the books by Janet Evanovich? There is a book series called One for the money, Two for the doe, and so on and so on. Seriously if you have not read them you need to! These books are funny, sexy, and smart! I could tell you all about them but you just have to read them for yourself! I promise they wont disapoint!

Just found your blog and am digging it!

I just finished reading "The Last Time They Met" by Anita Shreve-so good! A definite page turner (though not necessarily a pick-me-up kind of book).
I'm currently reading "The Simple Living Guide" by Janet Luhrs and am really getting a lot out of it.

I'm a sucker for memiors and self-improvement type books... I just finished this memior: Best of Friends: Two Women, Two Continents, and One Enduring Friendship by Sara James and Ginger M-something, and this self-imp book: The 5 Love Languages and it was pretty darn insightful. As far as fiction goes, I've recently read The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox by Maggie O'Farrell and it was pretty good. Let us know what you decide on! Happy Weekend... Hope it is a restful one for you.

Feel better!
As for the books...I'm all visual, I typically don't read, although I should, I go after books with lots of images.
Domino's new book will get you inspired!

I'm currently reading An Unquiet Mind: A Memoir of Moods and Madness...hehe not exactly a light, fun book :-) I can't wait to see what you decide (ahem, I won't be offended if you skip over my book suggestion-HA). By the way, that 7 layer dip sounds good right about now :-)

I have been reading Delicate Edible Birds and it's a short story book which is great if your having a hard time getting into a book. Have a great weekend!

I hope you feel better so you can enjoy your weekend.

I just finished "The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls.

I read it in a single weekend [and that's not usually my style]. It's amazingly touching, honest, and raw. I adored it.

Another one of my favorites is Water for Elephants. It's briliant.
