Interiors: Touches of Fuschia

I can never remember how to spell the word "fuschia"; I always have to look it up to make sure I'm getting it right.  A mix of purple and pink, fuchsia is not for the meek and apparently not for the spelling inept.  I like it in small spurts mixed with cool colors or against a neutral background.

Our bedroom is currently painted a similar baby blue as seen in that first room. When we were first "decorating" it, I suggested a pop of fuchsia but was vetoed by B (surprise, surprise) for green and white accents.  Oh well. Try again later.
Do you have any fuchsia in your home?  Tell me- I want to live  vicariously through you!

Interior Inspiration: Andrea Ferrari

There's something about waking up during a torrential downpour and going to work in rain boots that makes me crave the quite comfort of dark interiors.

On a lighter note, someone kindly nominated D&OC for the Lovelies under favorite Design Inspiration blog. Merci.

If you feel so inclined (and you know you do) please vote for D&OC here. All you have to do is leave a comment! I would really, really, really, really appreciate it! And, no, obviously I'm not above begging.

Small Scale Style

Perhaps instead of "small scale style" I should have said "miniature scale style" because that is exactly what this post is about. This amazing miniature dollhouse was decorated by Emily Chalmers, author of numerous design books (including Flea Market Style blogged about here) and owner of London based store, Caravan.

True to Emily's style, the home is filled with vintage pieces and fantastic patterns including hand printed wallpapers by Deborah Bowness. I have strange love for all things miniature and if I had any patience, I'd run out right now and buy a dollhouse just so I could decorate it. Isn't this little house just amazing?

A Cheerful Yellow Space

"Yellow is the color of sunshine. It's associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy. Yellow produces a warming effect, arouses cheerfulness, stimulates mental activity, and generates muscle energy."

Whether you love it or hate it, you have to admit there's a certain cheeriness to yellow that's uniquely it's own. The space above makes me want to run around that house and jump on the bed. Yellow is definitely my go-to energizing color.

Interior inspiration: Emma Thomas

These sultry, romantic, dark spaces by Emma Thomas are perfect for weekends like this when the rain and irritable weather makes me want to retreat and curl up with a good book.

These spaces look tell an artistic story, no?

Accessible Luxury

I don't consider myself a person who revels in luxury , or perhaps I should say that luxurious things are not always what tickle my fancy. "Luxurious" spaces are often intimidating and stuffy to me. If I ever (and it's rare) find myself in one, you can guarantee I'll be the girl spilling red wine everywhere and telling a crude joke that will NOT be laughed at (except by B of course). It's true friends, on top of being slightly unsophisticated, I'm also a klutz.
I think I like Katie Ridder's designs so much because, for me, she makes luxurious spaces accessible. Perhaps it's her bold use of color...

...or unexpected motifs...

...or maybe it's her use of pattern...

...or that I can see myself relaxing in the spaces she creates...

...or even eating in them (and hopefully not spilling the wine)!
