Accessible Luxury

I don't consider myself a person who revels in luxury , or perhaps I should say that luxurious things are not always what tickle my fancy. "Luxurious" spaces are often intimidating and stuffy to me. If I ever (and it's rare) find myself in one, you can guarantee I'll be the girl spilling red wine everywhere and telling a crude joke that will NOT be laughed at (except by B of course). It's true friends, on top of being slightly unsophisticated, I'm also a klutz.
I think I like Katie Ridder's designs so much because, for me, she makes luxurious spaces accessible. Perhaps it's her bold use of color...

...or unexpected motifs...

...or maybe it's her use of pattern...

...or that I can see myself relaxing in the spaces she creates...

...or even eating in them (and hopefully not spilling the wine)!

yes, yes, YES! i'm the girl spilling the red wine, too. i love those houses that are in design magazines that are all-white everything; except for the fact that i can't even wear white pants without inadvertently spilling some chocolate or spaghetti sauce on them.

my absolute favourite is that first pic - the mix of colours and textures is to die for, plus that chandelier? pure class ... that i don't have to worry about breaking. ;)

She does have some great designs. Her mix of materials is what gives off the luxurious appeal. She picks just the right ones!

I think I've had dreams about that purple room with the zebra print rug... ooooh I just love it. Someday I want a room just like that in my house.

I like the text for this post, Christina! There is something off-putting about living spaces that are too put-together. Like a hotel lobby of sorts.

That wall with flowers! WIN!

i'm definitely the girl saying something i would think is funny and no one would be laughing. i could so see that happening. funny. i'm adoring that last photo of that kitchen space, that unbelievable flooring, that leather bench seat at the table. such an eclectic space. the more imperfect, the more comfortable i believe. great post!

Love Katie Ridder! And I am the girl spilling her red wine (I tend to drink white at parties- though I prefer red- simply because of the spill factor!).

These spaces are luxe but very livable as well. Which to me, is the perfect combo.

That blue room is outstanding! I find it calming yet really fun at the same time. I could be so productive in this room, and afterward take a lovely relaxing nap.

I really love that little blue and green guest room/office. I have a similar retro couch, that I'd love to turn into a bed. What a great use of such a small space.

Nice. I like her style - glam but fun. Love the flowers on the wall and the zebra.
