Brick and Crystal up in a tree...

Exposed brick is much like wood paneled walls, it can either be a blessing or a curse. If you're a renter, you know that sometimes you have to bite the bullet and live in a less than ideal space which may contain one of these. What happens when you end up with brick walls you can't paint or that you simply don't like (not all brick walls are unlikable, but many are)? Here's one solution- add a chandelier. Put some glamour into an otherwise drab color scheme.

Or paint the opposite wall a bright, cheerful color...
Add some graphic detail and your exposed brick is instantly updated.

Have you ever been in a space w/walls you could instantly fix? What was your solution?

fantastic!!! but i'd kill for some brick in my life. there is pretty much ZERO brick in los angeles due to earthquakes, so it is always a treat to see it!

I have tried it in one of the stores that I am working with. We have this store concept with special wallcolors and so on - and then in a new store I met the brick wall, that I wasn´t allowed to paint. A carpenter made a big wood board for me and I had it painted the same color as the walls, then I placed it in the middle of the brick wall, and now you don´t notice the brick wall that much.

I agree, exposed brick needs to stay with the loft feel. Otherwise it can seem a bit stuffy!

Being in an apartment, I just have to use a lot of art or pictures. BUT, I've recently ran across wall paper that is easy to pull down?? I might give that a try and see what happens!

Such great ideas! I had exposed brick in the bedroom of my old apartment and did love it but also consciously chose bright and lighter colors in the room to compete with the walls.

Those rooms are great - love the pink with the red trim - and the light fixtures are fabulous!

Those are great! My biggest challenge was in college: An apartment with brown shag carpet (well past its fluffy stage) and a mirrored wall. Ack! My solution was to move the next semester! Not such a creative solution, but it worked!

Woah, those are awesome. I'm a huge fan of exposed brick, but those take it to the next level. Great juxtaposition of the glittery (chandelier) and gritty (bricks).

I adore that first room. The juxtaposition is so stunning. Lovely!
