Interiors: Grey + White Striped Seating

I've resigned myself to the fact that as long as I have four legged friends around, I will never be able to own a light colored couch.  I wonder though if maybe I could get away with a striped couch or chair, preferably in grey and white?

For now, I might just have to settle for this chair.  Gosh, dogs really put a damper on my decorating options (Kya and Bella- you know I love you, but seriously). As you can see from the above examples, it seems that grey + white stripes fit into just about any design sensibility.  The first room is definitely closest to my own preferences but you gotta love the versatility that striped seating allows.  What do you think? Stripes or solids for your seating?

  1. Love the stripes. Especially the grey and white b/c you can ad so many accent colors with it!

  3. The first one and the last one (I think, hard to tell from the angle) are exactly what I'm looking for for our living room! My mom keeps complaining about the lack of seating, so I want a petite little settee perpendicular to the sofa. It would be so cute in stripes! Waiting for the thrifting deal of a lifetime on this one though.

the pets pretty much dictate many furniture choices. or lack of choices! ay yi yi, but they are worth it!

  17. Stripes are lovely, but I went with a solid darker colour because of my doggies!! :)

  18. I like both, stripe and solid.
you make me giggle, that is was slip covers are for silly! I have a white slip cover sofa and my pup is always on the sofa. I do wash it weekly but that is why I bought 2 slip covers so while one is in the wash, there is always one on the sofa.
I also lay soft fleece across the sofa, draped like it's supposed to be there, that helps a lot!
But linen and cotton slips wash very well:)

one day you will venture out!! and go for the light colours:)

  19. love the stripes!
I've had a white slipcover on my sofa and lounges for years now with a dog and I wouldn't have it any other way! I was skeptical at first but no other fabric can live up to puppy paws and they are so easy to wash, bleach if needed and they look as good today as the day I bought them! You really should give it a try - even just on a chair to start and see how you feel...

  20. Oh, I do love gray and white--painted my whole house these colors 3 years ago. But the gray couch and blankets etc. that I bought over the course of time since then all have faded (gray fabric doesn't wear well) and I would be reluctant to get stripes based on that. But gray accessories? Any day!

Hope you're off to a great week Christina!

  21. I love the color scheme in that last photo, especially with the muted beige/grey stripes. Also, I just wanted to thank you for doing that giveaway over at Mochatini! I just found out from Manvi that I won a pair of your D&OC earrings! I am so excited! Thank you!!

  22. I'm kind of a solids girl.

I love white but it's hard to live with even without dogs. Slipcovers delay the inevitable.

  24. Love stripes on sofas. As I said before I am a little obsessed with black and white stripes. I just found a great web-site that makes slipcovers for a descent price for the Ikea Ektorp sofa and also for other Ikea pieces and they have a striped slipcover. I am posting about it on Monday. It is called Bemz. Love the options they give you. Kathysue
