Feeling Rustic

There really isn't anything "rustic" about my home, but the I admire the style because it's reminiscent of a time when we lived closer to earth; when wood, metal and clay were enough to make a comfortable space without all of the gadgets, widgets and doohickeys we've learned to depend on.

If you're looking for rustic or primitive decor, the shop Barn House Marketplace, has an amazing selection.  I found this shop on The Bedlam of Beefy.
How do you feel about rustic decor?

Somehow D&OC has managed to squirrel it's way into the top 5 design blogs for the Lovelies awards. THANK YOU to everyone who's taken their time to vote.  If you haven't voted, there's still time and I would really, really appreciate it.  You can vote for D&OC by leaving a comment here.  I'd bribe you, but I suppose that's against the rules (and should be against my ethical code but I suppose I'm flexible.)

i really love that first image! with the tiny pop of color in the little lamp in the background. i do like rustic or vintage, but wouldn't want a whole house of one style, i am a mix-it-up kind of person, keeps it interesting!!

I love the walls in the 2nd pic! It makes the room look so warm. I especially like that they've mixed it up with some more contemporary furnishings. I agree with avante garde. It makes it more interesting.

I love this style. Most of the photos here show rustic elements and materials, but they are still arranged in a clean, modern way.

I agree with Avant Garde--I wouldn't do over my whole house like this, but my downstairs family room with the fireplace would look so cozy with a more rustic mantle and furniture!

Perfectly stated :) We should all strive to learn to live without some of those gadgets. I'm in a contemplative mood about simplifying my life, can you tell?

Regarding the polar bear+dogs post, yes the photographer did state that at the first appearance of the polar bear, he was certain the bear was going to kill his dogs. But to his complete surprise (and relief), they became friends instead. I think the dogs were the photographer's sled-dog team. Nature can be crazy.

I've definitely noticed my style swerving more toward images like these! Rustic beams and broken-in fabrics make my heart go all pitter-patter!

I love the big wood table in the first photo!

I really like all that wood combined with the striped rug. For me, a little rustic goes a long way. I enjoy it most when contrasted with something more modern.
