Interiors: Unfinished Walls

How interesting are these unfinished walls spotted in Claire Bingham's living room on Design*Sponge?  For me, this look is a breath of fresh air from the ever pervasive perfectly styled room. Now if I can just figure out how to get the raw yet uncontrived look to work in my own home (sometimes uncontrived can end up being more contrived than contrived designs, if you know what I mean)...

Haha--yes, it is difficult sometimes to get an uncontrived look-----but i have always been drawn to half finished walls or exposed brick. Love.

Yes, I think you are right. This would look ridiculous in my newer home, but here is full of charm.

I love the look of this but fear I would be too anal to have it in my home. I would probably end up painting it all.

Funny how we love it when it's meant to be there but if it ever happened because of water damage we'd be mortifited...Carol

I like the top picture a lot, but the second too look to me like someone ran out of paint and just said "forget it." I definitely am not one for perfectly styled anything--at all--I much prefer eclectic and imperfect style--but these are a little much for me. Minus the first picture, which I love. :)

And I totally know what you mean about how uncontrived can sometimes seem more contrived. Tough balance . . .

oh my gosh, i looove it! i dream of the day i can paint my walls and this would def. be the look i'd want!

in my favorite book "Eat Pray Love" there's a part where a friend of hers starts writing on the wall with paint parts of a fight she was having with her husband. (she was an artist with clearly lots of passion! ha)

i loved that idea-- i wish i could paint words on my wall in my bedroom of love or part of a love letter my husband wrote me before we got married.

thanks for the day dreaming and home inspiration!

Hmm... I can't really decide what I think of this. I don't think I'd like it in my own home, though. I do, however, LOVE the look of an exposed brick wall, so I think if the unfinished sections of the wall were brick, I would like it better.
