Happy Weekend + New Year Intentions

I thought I'd take this first week to think about my intentions for 2011.  I normally don't put much thought into "resolutions" but I can see why many people do because is there any better time so set some goals then at the beginning of the year?  2011 is going to be a year of big change for B and I am feeling hopeful and energized. So in the spirit of thoughtful living, here are my intentions for the new year:

1.  Unsubscribe to unsolicited emails whenever the option is available.  My inbox sometimes feels like a mecca of PR news that I don't care about.  I'm making it a point to fight back and declutter the inbox!
2.  2010 was the year of physical laziness for me.  For the sake of my health and mental well-being, I've made it a goal to hit the gym at least 2-3 times a week.  I know this doesn't sound like much for many gym rats out there, but for me, it's a big step.
3.  See an allergist (appointment already made!).  I live with a soy allergy that is incredibly difficult to control as avoidance is nearly impossible.  If you don't believe me, check the labels on just about any processed food.  B and I have worked really hard to cut soy out of my diet by eating meals made from scratch (there is no other way, in case you're wondering) but I think seeing an allergist is a step I should have taken a long time ago.
4.  Be honest with myself first and with others second.  I  plan on keeping a journal in an effort to quite the noise long enough to face my true self.  My goal here is to cut the things out of my life that aren't working and foster the things that bring me joy.  I'm looking forward to a year of renewal and change and, for me, this begins with honesty.

Easy enough, I think.  How about you?  Do you have any intentions for the new year?  I'd love to hear them.
Have a fantastic weekend.  Take a cue from Kya above and get some rest. xo

Oof, a soy allergy?! That's probably one of the worst. Hopefully your doctor can give you some tips to make it easier.

My big goal for 2011 is to push hard toward being my own boss. Hunching over a computer in my cube is not for me. :-)

Kya has got the right idea, she looks so chill.

You have reminded me to make an appt for my 1st mammogram. My resolution was to take charge of my life, and my health. Thanks for the reminder.

Cheers to you and poop on soy!

great resolutions. i think trying to get to the gym 2-3 days a week is a realistic goal and that is what makes goals successful. best of luck.

I've heard that if you unsubscribe from unsolicited emails that confirms for them that it's a valid address, so they spam you all the more. I don't know whether that's true or not, but I block their addresses instead of unsubscribing because of it. I decided to unsubscribe from all of the mailing lists that I signed up for once upon a time and now aren't interested. My inbox feels cleaner!

nicola- oh no, i didn't know that! i think i'll be blocking some addresses then. thank you.

This year I resolve to let my hair grow out and to worry less :)
In the random information category, the sickest I ever saw a friend of mine who also had a soy allergy was after eating a home-cooked meal which contained soy protein additive which is often added (I feel, rather redundantly) to raw chicken, and from Mellow Mushroom pizza, as they make their dough with some soy flour. Hope you experience some relief from this in 2011!

I think these are all really great goals - especially the last. It's so important to work out what you want and where you're going before you're too concerned with the opinions of anyone else! :)

flynn- i was extremely ill after eating mellow mushroom pizza last year. we called the company and they denied putting soy in their flour, but i've heard from others soy is an ingredient. either way, i will not be eating there again.

The gym resolution is one of mine, too! I'm trying to hit the gym twice a week and swim laps once a week. It's hard, but once I'm there working out I remember how much better I feel after!

soy allergy...my daughter has that, too. But she will not stop with Chinese food...
Also, I have two email addresses, one for ads and one for personal...but you are right. I need to clear out the email clutter.
