Haiti Relief + D&OC Etsy

If you haven't heard about the disastrous earthquake that occurred in Haiti please take a moment to read about it here. To say that my heart is heavy is an understatment. I've traveled and done relief work in a few third world countries; Haiti was once on my list. I was part of a group that was going to travel there, years ago, but right before buying plane tickets, Americans were strongly warned to not travel due to violent political uprisings. I had been preparing for months for this trip, reading books on Haitian culture and studying the geography.

Instead of going to Haiti, I took a short trip to the Dominican Republic and worked in an all boys orphanage. Even though this trip was amazing, I still yearned for Haiti.

Yesterday after reading this post by the Lil Bee, I made a donation to the Red Cross' Disaster Relief fund because, you see, even a $10 will make a difference in this impoverished country.
I woke up this morning with a sense of discouragement, like I could do much more.
This could be a terrible idea, but I'm going to try it anyway...
Today, I'll donate 50% of all sales today from the shop to the Red Cross. If you feel so inclined, you can buy something for yourself and know that 50% of that purchase will go directly towards helping our brothers and sisters in Haiti.
Let be clear in saying that this isn't some ploy to get business in the shop. This is my commitment to pledge any extra income I make today will not go into my pocket, but will go to something far better.
Here are some new items I've recently added:
Vintage Perched Owl Brooch in Copper $14.50

Barely Blushing Mini Pink Rose Earrings $7

Blueberries n' Cream hairpin duo $10

Soft Seafoam Mini Mum Earrings $6

So, today, I pledge to donate 50% of all sales (this does not include shipping) to the Red Cross. I'll be sure to contact you and let you know exactly how much of your purchase will be donated. If you'd prefer to donate directly, you can do so here. It's easy and quick and regardless of what situation we're all in, we CAN spare $10.

I've been thinking of ways I could help the people in Haiti, although I have an extremely limited budget. I'm going to check out your shop and see if there's anything I can get, which will help you and the people in Haiti.

What a great idea. I commend you for it.

I know this is presumptuous, however, I want to say thank you for this offer. What a wonderful way to give back to a country that was improvised well before this disaster and is now completely devastated. Every little bit helps!

I just wanted to remind everyone out there donating for the relief effort, please check with your employers to see if they will match your charitable contribution. I just had my contribution matched and therefore, was able to give twice as much than I would have been able to gift on my own. Every little bit helps!

I think this is a great idea! My friends son just organized a clothing/bedding/toiletries drive. I thought it was the sweetest thing.

I think this is incredibly sweet and exceptionally helpful. Every dollar counts. Such a tragedy, its so heart breaking and devastating, I think we can all "afford" to help somehow, and if it can't exactly be in the form of dollars or cents, it can be time. We are all here together. Thank you Christina for this opportunity!
