Whew, it's back to the grind for me but I can't say I'm completely upset about it. My days away from work weren't really much of a vacation and the older I get the more I realize the value of structure in my life (i.e. no structure means doing absolutely nothing and eating copious amount of junk food.) There's lots too catch up on, including my blog reading, but for now let's go ahead and choose the winner of the amazing Flapperdoodle giveaway.

I've never worn a corset, but I wonder if I'd be elegant and poised or blue from lack of oxygen.
Maybe I should get one, you know, just to wear around the house so this way if I pass out I know I'm in a safe place.
The only problem is you need another person to tie them on, right? B won't be much help for that...

i have not yet worn one--- i dont really see an opportunity to. most of the "corsets" i see in stores are horrible... whorish. if i stumble across anything similar to what you're showing above, i'd be sure to at least try it on.
also- they remind me of ankle braces i used to wear during sports.
My wedding dress had a corset like top, I loved it!

My wedding dress was a corset style, and it made for a lot of quick breaths at times!
I've never worn one. I always think of the scene in Titanic when Kate Winslet's mom is tying hers up... the end result is beautiful but it seems like a somewhat painful process.
I've never worn one but I do think they can be very beautiful if worn the right way. I love the one with the big blue flowers on it! Gorgeous!

i wear a modern version just about every day, 'cause the vintage dresses i heart don't have a-n-y stretch. breathing is for suckers! :)
I wore a corset in high school for a play and got chastized by the people in charge for showing the tiniest bit of cleavage. That has scarred me and I've never worn one again. Those chairs are hot, though.
Corsets. If I were in hisotory class, being the history nut that I am, I'd probably launch into one of feminism speeches but since I'm Vogue mode right now, I'll say-
Corsets can look pretty fab. But there's fine line between trashy car commercial girl and elegant, feminine chic.
I had one on my wedding gown, and I have one for, well you know, the hubby ;] I don't think I'd ever wear one in daily life (maybe to a club? MAYBE?) but god do they make your waist look uber tiny and your boobs super huge.
If you get one that has hooks and eyes up the front, you need someone to help you into it the first time (to get it tight enough) and then you can probably manage on your own as long as you don't unlace the back. Unless you're going for the "if-I-don't-get-this-off-in-thirty-seconds-I-will-die" look. Then you need help every time
I do find them beautiful, and I notice that popular lines like Victoria's Secret rotates the vintage corset look regularly. But I don't think I would be comfortable in one. Some of the images you have here are so beautifully done it is certainly tempting though! I love the color of the vintage inspired ones.
Corsets scare me as I have a fear of not being able to breathe - I'd just get some Spankx instead...

I love corsets, I think that they are beautiful. I have several of them, but unfortunately they do not get much use!
i was asked to wear one on my wedding day, but i said heck no! i'm glad i didn't. they are really pretty though!
they are so beautiful, but they really look so uncomfortable! especially since my waist isn't what it used to be!
I have several corsets that I adore. When worn right (given time to break them in and mold to your body), they can be very comfortable, especially ones with spring steel boning that you can actually tighten without fear of ripping the fabric like so many "decorative" ones available in lingerie in stores are prone to do. Invest in a well made, steel boned corset though, progressively tighten it over several wearings, and it can be heavey! (BTW, most corsets unhook in the front so once you get someone to help the first time and tighten the lacings, they are easier to slip on and off by yourself).

I love corsets...never wore one, but dream of wearing one at some point! I think they are so romantic, and yes, someone does have to tie it on, but remember, they also have to UNTIE it too! That's the magic of it all....

at Trashy Lingerie in L.A. a young and unassuming actress was inside all by her lonesome, taking over every dressing room, trying on everything!
I guess she had not managed yet to be caught by TMZ, and was now on a mission for some publicity which never really came...unless I had assisted her that day..
She left screeching around the corner in her silver VW Jetta (safe) wearing a bright blue corset and a matching masquerade feather mask!
She should have paid a paparazzi to print it.
Too bad, she looked cute but, crazed.
All the working girls in the shop were confused.

I've never worn a corset and don't feel particularly tempted too either - they look a little uncomfortable and restrictive - I wouldn't be able to run up the stairs at work etc! I'm too much of a tomboy I think! But these are gorgeous - especially the Horst!

Oh gosh! The classic corset was worn once by me on Halloween and I have not worn it since but I did feel pretty sexy in it. I prefer my comfy dresses and pj's. :)

Corsets are great! do search for handmade proper ones on etsy. If in doubt go for a waist cincher by the fab louise Black! They give your curves more defination and are ooak.
I so want to buy one. I own a corset by limb clothing it fits nicely and is comfy. I am now teaching myself how to make a gorgeus victorian waist cincher that reduces the waist by 2 inches.Using A pattern by truly victorian from vena cava designs.Love the pics.
So I realize you posted this ages ago, but I had to put in my two cents. I love corsets. I think they're very comfortable (as long as they're made for you, and have good boning and not piece-of-s**t plastic) If they're made right, they can be quite comfortable to wear. You also don't HAVE to tighten them much. Tightlacing isn't for most of us, and I can tie my own corset to get my waist down an inch or so without breaking a sweat. OF course it is a little helpful to have assistance.
If you're going to try it out, I highly recommend it, but either get one made for you, or try and make one yourself. The cheapo ones give the good ones a bad name...
