Itsy bitsy teeny weeny sewing kit

There are some things every home/dorm room/apartment should have in case of emergency:
toilet plunger- need I explain why?
draino (or some earth friendly alternative)-especially necessary if you have long hair
fabric scissors-for when you need to make cut off shorts
some sort of sedative- for the occasional breakup or hyper manic episode (you know who you are)
a mini sewing kit- that's what this post is about!
Whether you're a seamstress or completely naive about sewing, like myself, a mini sewing kit is a must have. I usually keep one in my desk at home and one in my purse, but there are a lot of options out there, depending on your needs. Here are some of my very favorite, affordable options.
I love the bright colors of these and the leather will hold up for a long time.
Island Leather Sewing Kit $14
source: See Jane Work
This kitchy sewing kit would make a perfect gift for a new grad.
DIY Sewing Kit $16
source: UO
This cute, stand up, sewing kit is meant to be seen.
Decole Mushroom Sewing Kit $24
source: UO
This very functional twin set includes a sewing kit and a first aid kit and would be perfect for the glove compartment of your car.
Mini First Aid kit & Mini Sewing Kit $9.98

source: Container Store
Perfect for mending a button on the fly (pardon the terrible pun).
In Love Mini Travel Sewing Kit $5.99
source:Quilting Warehouse
There are also plenty of handmade options...
This one looks like a fabric wallet and you can always re-supply the kit when needed.
Mending Kit $12.50
source: Lady Farmers Market
It amazes me what crafty people can do with an old Altoid's tin.
Mini Fix Kit $9
How cute is the label on this?
source: Polly Danger
Another Altoid tin creation but this one has a removable felt needle book that attaches to top. How smart is that?
Desk Sewing Kit-Forever in Blue Jeans $15
source: Dribs n' Drabs
Finally, the mother-load of all "mini" sewing kits. This is a great option if you'll be mending items for more than one person.
Mini Sewing Kit -138 Piece Set $9.49

So what do you think about mini sewing kits? Do you have one?

i have that last one, and it's saved my sanity (or what's left of it) several times. at it's price i might even go far enough to say that it's a necessity. im still debating that one though, i'll get back to you.

I still have (and use on occasion...) the mini sewing kit my mom gave me when I went to college!

These are so cute and I'm going to go have to bookmark for the future... I currently have one of those standard plastic mini cases that really don't fit together well anymore. I'm a sewing-on-a-button-only type gal. Maybe someday I'll have a need for something more, but for now all I *need* is one of those adorable tins.

I love mini-sewing kits. In fact, I use a small wooden box that a beautiful sacher torte cake from Austria came in....so everytime I need to sew a button back on or stitch a quick hem, I dream of that tasty European chocolate memory!

As a seamstress, I'm usually always prepared for the little tears that happen in life;) However, I just recently lost my mini sewing kit, and I was looking for a new one; thanks for the post, Christina!

this now falls in my NEED category. They are all so perfect. The first two are really catching me. I'm going to get the first one for my purse, a MUST HAVE, because you just really never know, and the second if home, and its so cute that even if I happen to leave it out somewhere visible, I'm ok with that! My 'little' cousin is heading off to college soon, I think I spy a going away gift here too :) Thank you Christina!

What a great post! I'm slowly building my actual sewing kit, and many of these are way more elaborate than mine! Looks like I have to step it up! (my fave is the altoid tin!)

I love the kits you found! I've been needing one for a while but I really want to make my own. At home I have a big kit and at work too... My work/office mate quilts so I have her stuff on hand here, but I want one for my purse. I'm gonna get to work on making my own... your blog inspires me to craft.

Wishing you a great new week!

GREAT list. And of course, if you were going to post pictures of sewing kits, you would find such cute ones! I actually need a travel one - the tough part now is choosing which one.

I was given a needle book several years ago -- I am a serious seamstress and textile person -- and I thought, "oh, cute.." but found out how wonderful it is to use, especially when carrying projects around with me. I have recently been making my own and just posted one on my blog: http://lfntextiles.blogspot.com.
