Little pieces

I really, really enjoy interior photography (if you can't tell already). Part of what I enjoy about photographs of peoples homes are the little snippets taken, sweet vignettes of pieces of the space that feel special. I'm the type of person that likes to see the big picture...I want to know how all the little pieces add up. Today, though, I want to share little bits of well designed spaces. When I think about our new space, it can be overwhelming because there's so much blank space. To help abate the anxiety, I'm trying to focus on little areas and building them up in layers to create enjoyable places for your eyes to rest. I'll show you my space soon, but until then...here are some other people's handiwork.
This is vintage simplicity done right. I love the roughed up look of the vintage suitcases compared to the rich detail of the rest of the space.

We have so many books and I'm having to keep finding more and more places to put them. I like the idea of a little clock placed on top of a stack of books.

During the summer, I miss having my boots laying about (sort of looking like they belong to the decor).

After seeing this picture, I went out and bought two pieces of vintage luggage. The smaller piece is lime green and I placed it on my desk with a pink gerbera daisy on top. I say if you like an idea, take it, just remember where your inspiration came from.

Why not? It works.

I like that this individual is showcasing a piece most would try to hide.

Do you have a favorite vignette that you've set up?

My favorite in our slowly but surely decorated apartment, is the stacked salad plates with my grandmothers tea pot on top, on our dining room table. It's a good representation of old and new mixed. And of course, the fresh flowers to top it off!

I love how they have that print propped against the radiator... make it not seem so intruding in the room, more like another piece of art.

Also, I love to use books to decorate and create different levels in a little vignette.

This is a great reminder that not all decor needs to be in "perfect" decor. I always struggle because we have to most different pieces, too many books, and I am showing Scott this so we can have peace of mind!!!

ps
yes! show your place!! :)

All vintage items, well, almost all, seem to give an apartment/home instant class!

i am a book FIEND and have taken to just using them as my decor with cute little piles all around, finishing them with a plant or vase or something on top. love this pic of the books.

james has a pair of cowboy boots that he almost never wears, but we use them to prop open a door in our front hallway...i love coming home to see them there.

these are such fantastic shots and ideas! love them! sometimes it helps to compose areas in a smaller frame (camera) than seeing the big picture completely in front of you. i don't think i am making sense.

and i look forward to seeing what you do with your place. i know it will be great!!!

Great photographs. I love all of these lovely & quirky decor ideas.

Currently, I'm moving from one temporary residence to another so I'll let you know my favorite vignette once I settle in one place! :)

These are gorgeous images. We have zero vignettes in our apartment, but I do appreciate looking at others'!
