Athens news

There was a shooting in Athens this weekend...it's very tragic and very startling in nature.  I heard about it while I was working at the vintage shop on Saturday and I was given very little detail (which was especially frightening because I couldn't reach B on his cell phone and it happened very close to our house). Three people lost their lives at the hands of a successful professor and I'm not sure if, at this point, he's been caught or not.  I mention this because Athens is a small town and I'm very saddened that of all the wonderful art and music that comes out of this place, this senseless act is what makes headline national news.  I will never be able to understand the reasons people have to hurt each other in such permanent and relentless ways (and I hope I don't ever understand, really).  This act has certainly consumed my thoughts and I don't feel it's appropriate for me to continue posting without mentioning it.  I served one of the victims regularly at a cafe I used to work at, and honestly, I'm just kind of shaken by the whole incident (even though I did not know her in any real way).
I will be sure to get back to normal posting tomorrow, but for now, I hope you all have had good, restful weekends.  I am so thankful for your wonderful comments.

Wow, I am so sorry about this. It is tragic whether you know the person or if it just happens close to home, for you it was both. Thanks for sharing this with us and glad to hear your man is okay.
Let us know how you are doing.

Oh no. I didn't watch the news tonight, I'm not sure if the news has hit the west coast yet...this is just awful. I am sorry to hear about your friend, that is so tragic. Sending thoughts and prayers your way, and to the city of Athens. My best, Candi

Oh, hon, I'm so sorry. I heard about this but had no idea it touched someone that I knew so close to home. Let us know if we can help!

It makes me incredibly sad. I hadn't heard at all until my parents asked me about it on Sunday - when I looked it up, I recognized one of the names and had to make sure that was right. She bought a sizable painting from me the very day I had turned in my notice at the cafe. She had a very special place in my heart and I'm just very shocked and saddened.

How horrible. It's the kind of thing you don't expect to happen in your town. I know how unsettling it can be.

I am in Athens too. The whole thing just seems completely bizarre and horrible. It was a weird Twilight to say the least.
