I spent my day off yesterday searching for an outfit to wear to a friend's wedding at the end of March. B and I rarely make a trip to go shopping, I prefer online and he prefers NOT doing it at all. Regardless of our trepidation, we had a lovely time. I decided to document our little trip with some photos to share with you.
I bought this dress at H&M; it's really comfortable and long enough to wear to the office (it comes to my knees). I wanted something colorful yet formal enough to wear to a wedding. I'm going to pair it with a vintage red belt that I already own.
After trying on heels at Aldo, I decided for something a little quirkier that I would wear over and over again. The saleswomen gave me a terrible look when I suggested wearing them with the dress, but I'm telling you-it works! They're incredibly comfortable and versatile enough for me to feel like I'm getting my money's worth. Call me lazy but I can't justify spending money on heels that I simply won't wear a lot.
This sweet headband was on sale at J.Crew for $9.99. It plays up the feminine feel of the dress and adds an interesting juxtaposition to the shoes.
I don't blame you if you're skeptical of my shoe/dress combination. I definitely was but B and my good friend, whom I modeled the outfit for, assuaged any doubts that I had.
The key when I go shopping for an event is to purchase pieces that can be dressed up or down. What do you think?

Love your dress! It looks like it could be from Anthro! And definitely take pictures of the combo together so we can see!
ReplyDeletePretty pretty.
ReplyDeleteI agree - items should be multi-functional. Will we get to see this great outfit all put together?
i love it. dare to be different i say! :) i'm not sure if you ever watch american idol, ( actually can't believe i've been sucked into it) but there is a finalist who is from my son's high school and he is in the drama club with her, sibbon magnus. she too dresses similarly and the judges love that about her. you'll be gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYou are going to look fabulous! I love the quirkiness of the shoes, whimsy of the headband, and femininity of the beautiful floral dress! You should update us when you wear your outfit to the wedding!!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress.
ReplyDeleteI love the dress. It's like that frilly, wispy, girly dress that every woman needs.

ReplyDeleteoh wow what a gorgeous dress! Love everything, the colour, the pattern the feel!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I could totally see those shoes with that dress and headband. Very Great Gatsby!
ReplyDeletelove the dress and smitten with the headband!...but my fave is that you paired it with the shoes. you rock.
ReplyDeleteI love LOVE the shoes!
ReplyDeleteI have that headband in a blush color. Love it. I want to go buy that one, too. And the dress is so pretty...you'll be able to wear it so many different ways. I can't wait to see the combination together. You've got such a great sense of style, of course it will work. Love, love it.
ReplyDeleteI think this is fantastic! and I actually can see those shoes working! ...for sure wearing them more then heels totally makes them that much better! I think they are darling and I love that headband. I also love your books!!! AHHHHH dreamy!! ;) Have a great day Christina!!
ReplyDeleteVery cute look! The shoes are so versatile too.
ReplyDeleteSartorialist-worthy, I think! You'll be adorable. Hilarious when salespeople let you know their true feelings about what you're buying - aren't they supposed to be SELLING it to you? I couldn't pull off that look because my calves are so round but I have no doubt you'll be rockin.
ReplyDeleteI am jealous of your H&M find, I can never find something when I go. hmm. I'm not on the oxford kick yet, BUT I will agree with you that I love when dresses can be dressed up or down. And I especially love when people bring their personality into an outfit!
ReplyDeleteLove that dress! You'll be able to wear it a ton of different ways. I hope you'll post a pic of the whole ensemble together!
ReplyDeleteHow funny, I almost bought those shoes in the camel color on Friday! Good choice. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe dress is gorgeous!

you will look fab!
ReplyDeletesometimes i buy heels, and i really rarely wear them. THEY HURT. oh, how they hurt my baby feet! i don't know why i keep buying them. it is not smart!
Recently, my 77 yr. old Mother-in-Law, chased me around an H&M shop, whispering loudly, "I had all these before, I remember them. How come they're back?..Wow, they are back". ;P
ReplyDeleteLove the dress! I wish I had an hm near me! And I like the shoes! :)
ReplyDeleteI want to see the whole ensemble! the belt sounds awesome with it, but it's true, accessories do it all.
ReplyDeleteDon't listen to her - those shoes are so cute and different with that dress! Love your finds. xo
ReplyDeleteNothing like a dress that multi-tasks.

I love it! I think you'll look fantastic...I wish I was more creative!
ReplyDeletelove those shoes!
ReplyDeletewhich is funny because as a kid my mom made me wear those fifties "saddle shoes" (don't know if that's their real name, but that was my hateful name for them!)
i was the only kid wearing weird fifties shoes in the early nineties and i was so mad.
now i love them.
oh evolution :)
Love, love, love the outfit! I'm so ready to go dress shopping. Those oxfords are too cute! We don't have an H & M, and Aldo, or a J.Crew in my city, which is ridiculous because there are like 400,000 people in my metro area. Strange, because we have the largest (by far) mall in Tennessee.
