Mapping the obsessions

I'm beginning to worry that I'm exhibiting signs of ADHD as seen by my numerous little obsessions that keeping popping up. No, these are not OCD obsessions, more like I get really fixated on something for the house and although I don't forget about previous obsessions, I just keep adding new ones (i.e. plate wall, mobiles) and now vintage maps. I suppose part of my wandering eye has to do with the blank wall space that B and I are tirelessly trying to fill. Here's my inspiration for the map idea:

As I began searching for maps online, I ran across Rachel Austin's paintings on Modish and now I'm completely obsessed with these (look closely and you'll see the maps behind the paint):

  5. As of lately, I have been more and more drawn to the art of maps; however, I have never seen maps in this artistic/beautiful way. I love it! It adds such whimsy and charm to a space :)

  6. good call on the maps. i have a cartoon-ish map of salzburg framed (hiding under my bed til i have somewhere to put it, but still). I like to keep maps from actual trips I've taken... They're crumpled from the time spent crammed into a purse so they look antiqued, yet they carry personal memories as I've actually been those places.

However, I wouldn't mind having some artwork on top of those maps.

    Once again, great find.

  7. I am so with you on the map obsession... I have a couple awaiting my next house. (The one in my dreams that has a proper office space... and a laundry room and mudroom, as long as I'm dreaming). I just think it would make a cool room with maps used in various ways. I had a childhood friend who's family has a big framed one that they used push pins to chart their travels. I thought it was so neat.

    Love the art you found!

  18. DO you remember, long time ago, we had a show at the cafe, which featured paintings of animals on maps. I cannot remember the artist's name, but these are somewhat similar. Very cool!
