Gift Giving: Orange and Pear

Orange and Pear is well curated online shop that makes finding a unique gift pretty easy.  The site's 'gift ideas' section is split up in specific categories for him and her with descriptions like, "colleague, madly modern, the constant traveler, etc."  I thought we'd take a peek at a few of these options:
Jill Rosenwald Newport Gate Dip Bowls $48 / Roost fish serving boards (set of 3) $48
Roost Nuvo hourglass $30 / Bailey Doesn't Bark 23K Gold Mug $34.99
HomArt cast iron anchor bottle opener $12 / Thomas Paul Melamine scrimshaw coasters $16
If you'll notice, all of these gift ideas are under $50.  So there you have it. Orange and Pear is a fun store to browse and the prices are reasonable.  I give this shop two thumbs up!

TokyoMilk

I don't have a lot to say about beauty products here on D&OC unless the packaging is pretty and the price is right.  It's no surprise then that the gorgeous packaging on TokyoMilk is designed by Margot Elena, the same designer of another line I've featured, Love & Toast (both of these lines are as pretty as they are affordable).  I'll have to remember this line the next time I'm looking for a hostess or thank you gift.

Gift Giving: Terrain

heirloom seed collection $24; a pinch of salt $48; nested bowls $68; vintage style $45; Recycled Paper Garland $28; Tagua big necklace $98

Terrain features lots of lovely gifts for the home and garden.  While Terrain has a very pretty physical shop in Glenn Mills, Pennsylvania, the online store offers a nice array of goodies including vintage and handmade items.  If you're looking for gifts for the hard-to-shop for parents, in-laws, homebodies and naturalists, this shop is just what you need.
Speaking of holiday shopping, how's yours coming along?  Many online shops guarantee shipping through Dec 17th but after that, you're going to be paying extra for expedited shipping costs.  The time is upon us friends- better get on it!

Gift Giving: For the Nursery

Ditto on the love prints (2 8x10s) $30; paper crane print $15; owlphabet $15; bluebonnet bandit $10

I recently ran across Gingiber's work in a new shop featuring indie artists, Domestica.   I personally don't have a nursery (and I don't have any reason to have a nursery, so don't get any ideas) but we all know someone who's expecting or has a little one and I think these illustrations perfectly walk the line to please both child and parent.  You can purchase these prints in the kid's section in Domestica or on Gingiber's etsy shop.  I encourage you to check out both shops if your looking for gift ideas for the little ones.  I personally wouldn't mind receiving this calendar myself, but since I'm supposed to be concentrating on others...

Vintage: Picnic by Ellie

I came across this very pretty image of vintage holiday cards recently and immediately went the photographer's Flickr page in hopes that there might might be a shop to peruse.  I often do this while on Flickr and sometimes I run across a gem of a shop I would have never known existed otherwise!

Picnic by Ellie features some very fun vintage (and handmade) pieces that are playful, bright, and can't help but cheer you up.  Any of the vintage brooches would make a great gift for a vintage jewerly collector (me, me, me!!!).

6 things (Supermarket Ed.)

Normally, I share my recent favorite six items from Etsy, but I'm feeling snazzy this Monday morning so I thought we'd change it up and take a look at the many lust-worthy items on Supermarket.  I'm definitely feeling the push of the holidays, so I'm interested in gift worthy items like these:

The winner (randomly chosen by Random.org) of the Gaby Burger Designs $50 gift cert is... #48, Lizzypunch!  Congrats.

Gift giving: up in the air somewhere

Up in the air somewhere has a beautiful array of ceramic and papier-mâché bowls that would be the perfect gift for that hard to shop for individual.  The prices are incredibly reasonable and I'm thinking about buying this set to have on hand as emergency oops-i-totally-forgot-to-buy-you-something-but you'll-never-know-because-my-emergency-gift-is-so-awesome kind of gift. If you know what I mean.

apple & bee makeup bags

I recently acquired a few new makeup and cleansing products for the winter and would love to get my hands on a new tote to carry everything around in.  Apple & Bee shop has the cutest assortment of make-up and toiletry bags  in fun prints and various shapes.
Prices range from $21.95 to $59.  These would make a fun and useful gift for the holidays too, don't you think?

Gift Giving: Bridesmaids

Wouldn't these vintage compact mirrors make lovely bridesmaid's gifts?  These beauties are timeless and unique.  You could wrap them in hand-embroidered handkerchiefs and present them to the ladies who work hard to make your day special.  The set is currently for sale at sadie olive for $150.

Gift Giving: Bacon Recipe Book

We all know one, the person who puts bacon on EVERYTHING. I am lucky enough to know a few actually and I fear I'm quickly becoming one of them.  How does a former vegetarian of many years become a bacon gobbling feen? I don't know. Let's call it a crisis.
If you do happen to know a crazy bacon cheerleader (of sorts), I think this would make the perfect gift:
It's a handmade, letterpress, Bacon Recipe Book.  It includes 7 bacon recipes, one of which is "steam clams with bacon + beer."
It's available for purchase in limited supply via Paper Pastries
You may want to include the Chef's pencil set while you're at it!
I can't remember the last time I used a pencil for anything but drawing but these are too fun to pass up. In case you're wondering how far I've gone with using bacon in possibly inappropriate ways- bacon on a donuts and bacon infused whiskey.  Oh yes.  All thanks to this guy

Gretel and I

I came across these amazing doily coasters on Oh Joy! the other day and immediately fell in love with them. Aren't they sweet? I perused the shop, Gretel, and also found a plethora of other pieces I wouldn't mind owning...

White Cake Lace Coasters $19

Large yellow and White Omaggio Vase $98
Annie Antique Toy Pillow $22
Lovebird Rectangular Tray $32
Ursa Minor $85

I wonder if it would be rude that instead of using a traditional registry, I just gave people my blog link? After all, it's like one big wish list. Tacky you say? Eh. Maybe. Wouldn't be the tackiest thing I've ever done.

Don't Stop the Wine

If you're a wine drinker (and I hope you are), you know that a good wine stopper is not only a functional necessity, it's a tool to help stop the flow of wine so you don't wake up with a pounding headache (not that it's an ever and been for me...wink,wink).
I spotted these ceramic lovelies on Little Willow and I think I might need one of my own.

For $18 a piece, I may have to get a couple. Variety is the spice of life, right?
Variety and wine that is...
