Outfit: A bit tropical

I'm currently daydreaming about two things that will not be happening anytime soon: shopping and a tropical getaway. Alas, this outfit is the product of that daydreaming. What's a girl gotta do to get a vacation (or a new outfit) around here?

Turquoise + Diamond

Ummm, can we all please pause for a minute and talk about this amazing ring? I'd wear it as an engagement/wedding ring (if I didn't already have one that I adore, of course). Holy smokes. I adore it. ($515 from Magpie and Rye).

Photography: An ordinary moment

Moments in black and white. Lovely, no?

hansel from basel

Fun totes found over at hansel from basel for $32 each. I like the black and cream striped option. Simple and sweet.

Interiors: Pretty (Girly) Bathrooms

I was going to describe these bathrooms as "romantic" but I think that's the wrong word. These spaces are utterly feminine but not really sexy or romantic. I'm always curious about spaces that so obviously cater towards a stereotypical feminine aesthetic, perhaps because I'd never want a room like these in my own home. That doesn't mean I don't think these spaces aren't pretty. They're obviously pretty and there are moments in each space that I really adore (i.e. the mirrors in the first room and the chevron floor in the last) but overall, they're just too overtly girly for my tastes (the exception being the third space thanks to the neutral palette). What do you think about these feminine bathroom? Too much or just right?

Paper Goods: Sweet Lulu

Shop Sweet Lulu makes me want to throw a party. I mean, how cute are these plates, straws, and adorable treat bags? Next time I'm in charge of a baby or wedding shower (or maybe a summer ice cream party?), I'm shopping at Sweet Lulu's.

Tablescape Design Camp

How's your weekend going? I wanted to pop in quickly and let you know about a fun opportunity if you live in the D.C. area. My blog friend, Manvi from Mochatini, is hosting a tablescape design camp and champagne party next Wednesday, June 29th from 6-8:30pm. For all the fun details, click here. Registration is only $30 and Manvi is one talented stylist so I'm sure she'll have lots of great tips to share. I wish I could be there, but alas, I live too far away so I thought I'd share this opportunity with you all.
On a different note,  is anyone as excited as I am about the True Blood season premiere tonight?! We're going to a True Blood party (Bloody Marys and all!). Can't wait! xo

Down and Out Beauty: Antioxidants + Suncreen

My inspiration for this post was a rash of clients and one of my front desk girls coming for pre Bonnaroo facials and skincare advice. They all said they wanted me to "save" their skin from the harsh conditions of the festival. I advised all of them to use an antioxidant and sunscreen cocktail to get the most protection from the sun.

Recent studies have shown that adding antioxidants to sunscreen significantly helps to protect against UV damage. UV exposure can damage skin cells and cause the formation of free radicals, molecules missing an electron, that will then rob other molecules to replace the missing electron. This process, called oxidation, doesn't kill cells, but can mutate their DNA. When these mutated cells divide, their daughter cells will contain copies of the altered DNA. With repeated free radical attacks, the body's natural antioxidant defense is overwhelmed and the cumulative damage can cause a host of chronic diseases, such as cancer, and lead to photo aging by attacking collagen and elastin fibers in the skin.  Oxidation happens even if you're wearing sunscreen, so by adding antioxidants, either orally or topically, you fill the "oxidation hole" left by your sunblock.

Personally, I prefer an antioxidant based serum (vitamins C, E, and A) worn under an SPF 50 sunscreen. These vitamins stop the oxidation chain reaction by supplying free radicals with the missing electron they need. They also neutralize enzymes that attack collagen and elastin fibers.  Since it takes four hours for antioxidants to be absorbed topically in the skin its best to apply your serum both morning and night.

My favorite serum at the moment is the Naturopathica Ultra-lite Vitamin C Revitalizing Complex. Since I have dry skin I apply one pump of the serum and then moisturizer and sunscreen over the top. Normal to oily skin types can use the serum as a moisturizer as it has a light gel to cream texture with a very clean finish.

This simple addition to your routine can be your best defense against photo aging and keep your skin looking healthy and young.

Interiors: Casual Comfort

These spaces are all from different homes but they seem to flow quite nicely together. They have a slight country chic vibe but mostly they exude warmth and comfort. Ultimately I think I'm drawn to these spaces because they seem realistic and liveable. Being well-styled is one thing, being liveable is a whole other topic, wouldn't you say?

Sponsor Love: Silver Lines Jewelry

Silver Lines Jewelry is the newest sponsor to D&OC and is a Greece based jewelry shop with a modern yet organic aesthetic. I love how the edges of the enamel pieces are slightly rough and perfectly imperfect. My favorite items though are definitely the giraffe and turtle stud earrings (so cute!)

Tomato (to wear)

All the toe-may-toe-y goodness makes me happy. It's the kind of color never fails to brighten my day. See anything you like?

Horizons

Photographs by Yuichiro Miyano. The aqua tones are quite beautiful, aren't they? In each of these images, the moment where the earth meets the sky is slightly blurred creating one large plane of color. So soft and special.

Perfect Summer Skirt?

I haven't visited an American Apparel shop in quite some time so when I went into one this past weekend, I was pleasantly surprised to find these adorable full woven skirts. They're 100% cotton and can be layered for the fall but are lightweight enough for hot weather and they're not ridiculously short! I really love the striped options. If you're looking for a longer length skirt, this one is pretty stinking cute too.

Interiors: Bold Green Walls

Whoa, now those are some green walls! Perfect for the I'm not sure I want to start the week but I know I have to because I don't have a choice kind of Monday morning, don't you think? I love this bold use of green and I'm surprised at how well the pink and purple accents compliment the chartreuse tones in the third and fourth examples. Cheers to a bold new week!

Wish list 6.16.11

Tiny triangle rings ($20) by Stone & Honey. I'd like a few to stack. These are so sweet, there's no way I could stop at one.

Hair Inspiration: The Top Knot

aaand, my own (unglamorous) version.
The top knot is undoubtedly my go-to hair style for the summer. Since it's so stinking hot in Georgia, I can only stand to have my hair down when I'm in the office. As soon as I get home, up it goes! It's so simple and can be as tight or as loose as you like. It doesn't get any easier.
How is your hair handling the heat? Are you sticking to a particular style this summer?
