Happy Weekend

Do you have any fun Halloween plans this weekend?  B and I are definitely going out but, as is par for the course, I don't have anything planned for a costume.  I'm hoping my creativity will kick in within the next 24 hours so that I can pull something off.  Any great, last minute costume ideas? What costume will you be donning?
Just a couple of reminders:
*I'm offering $5 off any sponsorship package.  If you're interested in sponsoring D&OC (advertising before the holidays is a great time to try), just e-mail me.
*The giveaway for a $50 gift cert to Earrings Nation is still open.  You can enter here.
Have a great weekend!

Wishlist 10.28.10

Two items on my wishlist today because I simply couldn't narrow it down.  The square front cutout ring ($60) is a unique shape that has a utilitarian feel and would be perfect  juxtaposed against a dress like this striped shift ($110). It seems as though I can't have one without the other.  (Sigh)

Fall Shopping: Skirts

I have the hardest time wearing skirts, especially office appropriate skirts.  I can't seem to find anything that doesn't bunch when I walk, stick to tights, pinch my waist, or simply make me incredibly aggravated.  Needless to say, I'm ready to throw in the towel with my skirt wearing endeavors but I've noticed that this season, there's more variety in the style and shapes of skirts for the hemline I'm seeking (i.e. pencil skirts are no longer the only option).  I'm willing to give it another whirl and am even willing to try a maxi length if that means I'll be comfortable.  Here are my picks for under $100:

Pleated Skirt $44.99 and Ruffle Hem Skirt $46.40

What's your favorite style of skirt to wear?  If you have any skirt wearing/shopping suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

Interiors: Touch of Lemon

This Toronto home, featured in Style at Home, was decorated on a budget (think Craigslist and Habitat for Humanity).  I really like the burst of lemon yellow spurts throughout the home, but my favorite feature is definitely the lemon-lime and pale blue tiles in the kitchen. Such a pretty space!

PRINTINkstudio

PRINTINkstudio is an Australian company that ships worldwide and has some very pretty houseawares including tea towels, aprons, and bedspreads.  All of the products are handprinted with fun color combos and sweet patterns.  I'd really like this to get this adorable baby play rug for the next friend who's expecting.

Interiors: Teal + Citron

I feel like I'm battling a constant internal struggle over color, especially with the interiors I post.  Part of me wants to see neutral, comforting colors while the other part of me screams, "you'd never go for blah, you need color in your life!"  This is where teal and citron come in.  It's a sexy, bold combo that loves attention but supported by a neutral backdrop, it remains quite balanced.  Add a pop of red and you can't help but feel invigorated.  Perfect for the wintertime blues, wouldn't you say?

Wishlist 10.24.10 + Housekeeping

I hope you're enjoying your weekend.  I normally don't blog on Sundays but company with three dogs and no husband has left me feeling kind of bored AND I couldn't wait to share my latest wish list item. These folding Pantone chairs would be perfect for an outdoor patio or to bring out when needed for extra seating at a dinner party.   At $69 a piece, buying a set hardly seems daunting.

Now the the general housekeeping I wanted to mention- in an attempt to clean up the layout of D&OC, I've simplified the content on the sidebars.  You can now find the ever growing blogroll on it's own page.  I also wanted to mention that I'm regularly updating (a few times a day) my tumblr with lots of inspiring interiors.  I hope you'll check it out!

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday!  I don't know about you, but I am definitely looking forward to the weekend.  B and I are dog sitting while our friends go on a belated honeymoon.  That'll be three dogs in the house.  Wish me luck!  What are you doing this weekend?

A few things I had to share from this week:
- This post was one of the best I've read in a long time.  A blogger shares his story of triumph over other's ignorance and cruelty.
- A speech on compassion which gave me a lot to chew on.
- Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, Ruche went and opened a home section in the online shop.  I want this for my office and this for my niece's bedroom.

Photography: Warm Gold

I love the soft, warm glow in these photographs by marika. They're the perfect images for autumn, aren't they?  We noticed yesterday the leaves changing color around our house.  This is undoubtedly my favorite season.

Interiors: Stoned

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about stone interiors because although I find these spaces intriguing and the stone incredibly versatile (as seen in these minimalist and modern examples), I can't help but think how cold these spaces would be in the winter.  I mean really cold! There is a special quite beauty to pale stone walls that I appreciate though.  What do you think?

Wishlist 8.19.10

For someone who loves birthdays so much, I'm terrible at remembering them.  I desperately need a better organizational tool now that my family has tripled in size, so I've begun looking for birthday calendars.  Thus far, the birthday calendar by Linda & Harriet is my favorite. It's the worst feeling in the world to forget a loved one's birthday, isn't it? How do you keep up with everyone's special day?

Would you like to advertise on D&OC?

Looking to get your name out for the holiday season?  If you're wanting to spread the word about your small business or if you're an independent artist, vintage shop owner, or blogger, I'd love to work with you. Sponsor slots are available and $5 off any package makes the rates even more affordable.  E-mail me and we'll chat, ok?

Wishlist 10.18.10

I recently broke my favorite mug, a gift from a friend in London.  As sad as this makes me, I'm now in need of a new work mug and the camera lens mug ($24) by Photojojo is perfect! It comes with a lens cap lid, rubber grip focus and an auto focus that actually switches on and off.  I die.  Seriously, coolest mug EVER.

Interiors: Trine Thorsen

Hope you had a lovely weekend!  I'd like to start off the week with some interior shots by Norwegian photographer Trine Thorsen.  Between the sea foam colored chairs (which I want desperately) and the abundance of plate walls, I'm completely smitten.  Trine Thorsen has an impressive, drool worthy interiors portfolio as well as a very pretty blog.  Did I mention that I want those sea foam chairs?

Happy Friday

Happy Friday dearest readers and friends.   This weekend, I'm helping my sister out by doing her hair and makeup for a wedding she's in (fun!) and then B and I are taking our niece for the night (yikes!).  I'm looking forward to getting out of the office and away from the computer screen for a little while but I am hoping to get some blog reading caught up on as well.  It's become a new favorite Saturday morning activity.
What are you doing this weekend?  Have you been enjoying your fall?

Just a reminder that if you haven't entered the Wallflower Vintage giveaway for a $100 gift cert, you totally should and then when you win, you should give it to me :)

Our Wedding Story

I'm excited to finally be able to share our wedding with you (at least a longer version than this post).  For those of you who don't know, B and I got married a little more than a month ago.  We had a small courthouse wedding on a Tuesday afternoon.
Some fun tidbits about our wedding day:
*B got a bloody nose on the steps of the courthouse, right before we walked in.
*All of the courtrooms were full so our very nice judge suggested that we get married outside.  It was perfect!
*I cried through much of the ceremony much to my surprise (but not to my makeup artist who layered me up with waterproof everything thank goodness).
*There was little wedding planning involved. We kept it simple and small and loved every second.

Here's the breakdown of what we wore:  dress- Anthropologie (it went on sale right after I bought it, you can imagine my disgust) shoes- UO, B's suit and tie - J.Crew, B's shirt- Banana Republic, flowers in my hair- Ban.do, flower on B's lapel EmersonMade, birdcage veil twigs & honey, photographer Mike Knapp (he can be reached at mikeknapp84@gmail.com), photographer of 5th photo- Keith Rein

Thank you for all of the love and support you've shown us throughout this whole process.  From the moment we got engaged, we have been cheered onward and we are so thankful for all of you. More photos can be seen here and here.
