Shop Update

I hope you've been having a great weekend!  I just wanted to drop in and show you some of what I've been working on with the shop. I've added three new necklaces and will be adding lots of fun rings in cheerful, springtime hues this week.

The rings will be added throughout the week.  It's amazing how productive I can be when I have two days off for an actual weekend! What have you been up to?

An Outfit: Nautical + Orange

Nautical stripes and orange shoes, yes, I went there.  I'd welcome each element of this outfit into my wardrobe in a heartbeat, from the compact saddle bag to the boyfriend skinny jeans, I think I need it all.  I definitely see the striped top working with a long necklace and I think it's about time I bought some orange shoes. Perfect for the spring!

The ring is a bit of a splurge at $140 but I think it's adorable and would make a happy alternative to an engagement or wedding band, no?

a side note: some of you have recently asked about my decision to moderate comments.  This isn't because I'm actually deleting ANY of your comments, how could I, I ♥ them, but I think some spam bot has recently taken a liking to me and keeps sending D&OC gibberish.  Spam bot- if you're reading this, I'm flattered by all of your attention but I'm getting a little tired of your non-sensical blabber and I would really appreciate if you'd STOP leaving so many f****ing comments. Please and thank you.

It's a State affair

Guess what? You can love your state and not look like you've been shopping at local truck stop, plus those state "welcome centers" are way overpriced.

I'd suggest that state paraphernalia be used and worn in restraint and perhaps in the more ironic sense, lest you want to look like a wide eyed tourist, then by all means.
For the record:

Vegan Ballet Flats

These adorable, eco-friendly, handmade shoes come in a variety of styles for children, brides, and women like you and I (sorry men, I have a Down and Out Dapper to help me with you). The shop is HydraHeart and I think their product is something special.
Made with organic material and an optional "heavy tread sole" these are definitely a nice eco-friendly choice for spring.  They also invoke the little ballerina in me.

Candy colored dining chairs

I'm bad about formality of any kind and that includes formal dining.  Whenever I get an actual dining area, I'm thinking mismatched chairs will be a must but I also like these candy colored options.  They're fun, casual, and you can pick you favorite color to sit in!

An Outift: Saturday Morning Farmer's Market

As the weather slowly warms and the days get a little longer, my mind is on Saturday morning market trips.  This outfit was put together with comfort and ease in mind.  Wake up late, toss on a comfortable tunic, some big shades, a bright scarf, and don't forget your eco-friendly tote bag.
That tunic and those shoes have definitely made it to my "must have" spring list.  Have you started your list yet?

Feeling Rustic

There really isn't anything "rustic" about my home, but the I admire the style because it's reminiscent of a time when we lived closer to earth; when wood, metal and clay were enough to make a comfortable space without all of the gadgets, widgets and doohickeys we've learned to depend on.

If you're looking for rustic or primitive decor, the shop Barn House Marketplace, has an amazing selection.  I found this shop on The Bedlam of Beefy.
How do you feel about rustic decor?

Somehow D&OC has managed to squirrel it's way into the top 5 design blogs for the Lovelies awards. THANK YOU to everyone who's taken their time to vote.  If you haven't voted, there's still time and I would really, really appreciate it.  You can vote for D&OC by leaving a comment here.  I'd bribe you, but I suppose that's against the rules (and should be against my ethical code but I suppose I'm flexible.)

Large portraits as decor and a guest post

Large family portraits as decor doesn't always work, but in these cases, I think they're perfect.

I'm not sure B wants to see my giant mug any more than he has to, but I wouldn't mind a large portrait of the dogs or if I had children.  Do you like the look of over sized portraits on the wall?
~
On another note, I'm guest posting today over at Mochatini today.  I've rounded up some fun animal themed kitsch for the kitchen.
Hope to see you there!

Interiors: Traditional + Modern

I really like this coverlet/throw at the end of the bed in the space featured in Alvhem. If you know where I can find a similar one, please share.

The rest of the home looks just as appealing.

via Alvhem
The mix of traditional, modern, and perhaps Scandinavian influence is interesting to me. That little dinette is perfect for casual breakfast and lunches while the dining area offers a more formal setting. B and I also have two places to eat, the kitchen and the couch. Very fancy, I know.

Shop Update

Some new items in the shop, for your viewing pleasure...

Interior Inspiration: Annie Schlechter

Happy Monday!? I hope you had a lovely V-day. B and I were very productive getting our house clean so I'd say it went pretty well :)
I first ran across Annie Schlecter's photography at Real Simple, but her work has been seen in many places including Domino, House Beautiful, Target, and W Magazine.
I've always been impressed with a photographer's ability to shoot interiors seeing as how trying to photograph my own home causes extreme anxiety leading to acid reflux and avoidance (i.e. it never gets done). Although you're probably familiar with Schlecter's work, I thought I'd post some of the images I find fresh and currently inspiring.

The thing I like about these spaces are that they could be anybody's home. They look lived in and not stuffy or pretentious. What do you think? Do you agree that these spaces kind of remind you of "home"?
