Interiors: Dinettes

Note to self- it's not the size that counts, it's all about how you design it.   B and I have a small dinette and sometimes we feel tempted to overcompensate, always apologizing to people for it's small size. Granted, our dinette is obviously not going to be able to handle a giant dinner party any time soon but it holds its own for our everyday meals.  Do you have a dinette?  If so, how do you style it (i.e. fun table cloth, interesting chairs)?

We have a formal dining room, so that's not a problem for us... but we don't have a ton of counter space in the kitchen. I bought a stainless steel work table and two stainless steel stools to put in a little nook by the window. It doubles as a breakfast bar and food prep area, and it's also a good place to set out food when we have parties. Unfortunately it also has a tendency to turn into the dumping ground for mail and such, so it's not always functional. :-P

stephanie- ours is the same way, used as a dumping ground for mail, scarves, etc. i think i use it more as a work table than for actual eating :)

We have an in between. It can maybe fit 6, but that would be crowded. It is just a cheapy from Ikea, but it is simple, has clean lines and serves a purpose.

I have my eyes peeled for a nice vintage or antique table, but money dictates that I stick with what I have for now :).

So cute! Each one cuter then the next!

Such a lovely collection of little dining nooks! I had never thought of painting chair legs a different color than the rest of the chair, but it's so cute in that first room!

Have a good weekend Christina!

the round table in front of the two windows looks so cozy.

I have a bistro table w/2 stools in my kitchen, and a big traditional dining room table in my dining room. It's so beautiful! It was made in Mexico and has the original leather on the seats . . . I love it. :) But the bistro table is super convenient for kitchen chats!

No, I don't, we have a bar. We tried owning a cheap version to test it out and it was donated within a month. It ended up being our mail-and-junk-we-are-too-lazy-to-put-away-table. It looked more of a mess than cute. We also don't entertain, so the bar works for us. If we move to a bigger place, i would love to own one!

This is very inspiring. We don't even have a table. But if we did, dinette it would be. I think people are more prone to sit at a dinette table anyway. The big tables only get used on special occasions.
