What to write on

The chalkboard wall trend has taken me a bit by surprise, but I kind of really like it. My friend Marilyn and I were talking at our Bison BBQ about chalkboards and she mentioned wanting to do a little DIY project with chalkboard paint. I think this a great idea and one I might have to steal (Marilyn a gracious lady and is kind of genius so I don't think she's going to mind).
Here's one of my favorite chalkboard walls:

Here's an example of a handmade chalkboard in a fun, painted frame...

Then, yesterday, heisschic from Technical Support sent me a link to IdeaPaint and now I kind of want a dry erase board to match my future DIY chalkboard.
The dry erase paint goes for $3.99 per sq.ft and I'd only need a little for a framed dry erase board. Wouldn't that be cool?

If I had a big wall that I could write on, I'd never be at a loss for paper when an idea for my blog hits me...ok, no, that's not going to happen. But I am going to work on the framed small boards, just wait...it's going to be awesome.
How do you feel about the chalkboard trend?

Oh, I have always liked it! I am now also wanting to use magnetic paint too--so that you can have the wall any color you would like and still be able to just stick things on it!

I have a chalkboard wall decal on the kitchen wall, and it adds a nice quirky touch to an otherwise boring wall.
I LOVE the big wall though! One of these days...when I have an actual house to call my own...le sigh

I mentioned both of these in my post about stuff at the MoMA store, I love it! I'm a screenwriter/film student so a chalkboard wall would definitely come in handy to write out my ideas. Gonna have to convince the boyfriend to paint one somewhere when we move to our new digs.

What I think? I think you should visit my blog this Friday - I´m having my fist give-away and the word "Chalkboard" is very much involved :-)

I like it - especially since you can get any paint color!

The office that I work at has a chalkboard wall in the boardroom. I've always thought it was such a cool idea!!

As you know... I'm all over it. I have both the kids doors covered with chalkboard paints. I like mixing my own colors of it, though, so the fact that it's a chalkboard seems more like a surprise (and then, too, if nothing is written on it for a couple days it doesn't look like a glaring black wall!).

Love the idea of the dry erase paint - does it only come in white (there I go again with needing colors...)

Oh no. Now I am going to have to get massive pieces of plywood or drywall to make a chalkboard wall in my kitchen!I love the idea, but I live in an apartment, and am forbidden to paint! I love massively sized art, though . . . .

I had a chalk board wall in the Kitchen but, it did not make it on the wall smooth enough, so it created a lot of dust and became hard to clean.

However, I would still like to attempt to paint the entire garage. Making notes and arrows pointing to find this or that. The idea paint may be the ticket.

I love chalkboards - I have since I was little. My mom used to have one of those tiny, wooden framed chalkboards that they used in school, and I loved writing and drawing on it.
I can understand why chalkboards are becoming a trend; we humans just love tagging, don't we?

Oh I love the idea of chalkboard walls, but I love the idea of dry easy even more. How fun would that be! All those different color markers. Love it!

I love chalkboard paint. Some friends of mine have it painted in their bathroom, so you can write a little note/doodle whatever while you use the toilet!

I actually just started up an etsy shop and this is what i'm featuring. I take old antique frames and turn them into chalkboards. I never could find one that i liked, so hence the idea came to me. It's a wonderful piece to place in the kitchen as a grocery list, daily reminders, etc...
{{Great post}}

How have I not heard about idea paint? Where have I been? Love the idea!

Wait--you can make a DRY ERASE board? I have bad memories of those things from college, but great ones from teaching. I'm still on the chalkboard bandwagon, though. It could be just a matter of aesthetic taste. It's just so clean and old-fashioned, and when dolled up with a purple frame like you posted, gorgeous, I think.

I adore the chalkboard trend. The first picture was amazing! I am a huge fan! I found a tiny vintage chalkboard as a homage to the brilliant trend.

I think everyone knows my take on the chalkboard trend. One wall in the office and a door in my master bathroom. Um, yeah. I like it.

I just saw this used in the eating space of an apartment on a design show. It looked so cool in the space as there was a lot of natural light. What a great idea?!
